Becoming the Still Point
Welcome to our final reflection.
We have come on a quiet, steady journey.
We gave ourselves permission to be weary. (Part 1). We found our firm, unseen anchor. (Part 2). We learned to connect to it with our “Kettle Prayers.” (Part 3).
Now, we ask: “So what?”
What is the result of all this?
It is this. We stop being a thermometer. We become a thermostat.
The Reflection vs. The Ruler
A thermometer just reflects the chaos in the room.
When the house is stressed, we all are stressed. When the kids are melting down, we melt down.
But a thermostat sets the tone.
It is the “still point.” Because it is anchored, it can quietly bring the whole room back to a place of peace.
The Overflow of Peace
This is our final invitation.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…”
Colossians 3:15
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts…”
(Colossians 3:15).
When we are anchored to Him, His peace doesn’t just visit us. It rules in us.
And when His peace rules in us, it overflows from us.
We don’t just find peace. We become the peacemaker.
We do this in our own loud, beautiful, chaotic homes.
Prompts for a “Thermostat” Heart
Use your journal to calibrate your heart.
- The “Thermometer” Feeling: “When my home is in chaos, what does my body feel like? (My shoulders tighten? I feel my voice rise? I feel irritable?)”
- The “Still Point” (The Anchor): “When I feel this, how can I use my ‘Anchor Prayer’? How do I find my own ‘still point’ before I react?”
- The “Thermostat” Action: “What is one peaceful action I can bring into the chaos? What can I do instead of adding my own stress? (A quiet voice? A safe touch? A deep breath?)”
- A Prayer of Peace: “Lord, let Your peace rule in my heart today. Help me to be the thermostat of grace in my home. Let me be the ‘still point’ that reminds my family that they are held.”
Your Anchor: The Reset Ritual
This is your “Reset Ritual.”
The next time you feel the chaos rising. The next time you feel that “snap” of impatience.
- STOP. Do not speak.
- LEAVE. Leave the room for 60 seconds. Go to the bathroom. Step outside.
- ANCHOR. Place your hands on a cold surface. Take three deep breaths. Say your “Anchor Prayer.”
- RETURN. Re-enter the room as the “thermostat.” You are not a “thermometer.” You are now carrying your anchor with you.
This is the end of our series. But it is the beginning of your anchored, peaceful journey.
With grace, Debbera
