Devotional Series (Part 3): An Anchor for Your Soul – The “Kettle Prayer” Connection

Devotional Series (Part 3): An Anchor for Your Soul – The “Kettle Prayer” Connection

The Kettle Prayer Connection

Welcome to Part 3 of our journey.

So far, we’ve given ourselves permission to be weary. (Part 1). We’ve found our firm anchor of truth. (Part 2).

But now, we have a new, practical problem.

Our “anchor” is at the bottom of the sea. (It is our Truth). Our “boat” is up here in the storm. (It is our real, messy day).

How do we connect the two? What is the chain?

The Missing Link

We have the intention to be anchored.

But at 3 PM. When the “spin” starts. When the noise rises.

We feel disconnected.

I want to remind you of that beautiful, simple invitation:

“pray without ceasing”

1 thessalonians 5:17

“Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

For us, this is not a command to be on our knees all day. That’s impossible.

It is an invitation to have a running conversation.

It is the invitation to create a chain.

It is built of tiny, strong, “in-between” moments of connection.

the kettle prayer

This is the “Kettle Prayer.”

It is the 60-second “anchor prayer” we use in the middle of the mundane.

It is the chain that tethers our spinning boat. It holds us right in the middle of the storm. It connects us to the steady anchor of His peace.

your prompts

Prompts for a “Chain” of Prayer

Use your journal to forge the links.

  • Find the “Pockets”: “What are the ‘in-between’ moments in my day? What are my ‘kettle’ moments? (Boiling the kettle? Waiting in my car? Washing my hands? Stopping at a red light?)”
  • Create Your “Anchor Prayer” (Your Chain): “What is my one, simple, 6-word ‘anchor prayer’? (Prince of Peace, be my anchor. I am held, I am held. Grace, not guilt. Peace, not panic.)”
  • A Prayer of Intention: “Lord, help me to ‘pray without ceasing’ today. Not in big ways. But in these small, ‘in-between’ moments. Let these be the chain that holds me to You.”

your action point

Your Anchor: The Holy Habit

Today, your practice is to build the chain.

  1. Choose your “Task Anchor” (e.g., Boiling the kettle).
  2. Choose your “Anchor Prayer” (e.g., “Prince of Peace, be my anchor.”).
  3. Action. Every time you do your “Task Anchor” today, you must also say your “Anchor Prayer.”

This is how you build the holy habit.

This is how you “pray without ceasing.”

(Read Part 4 in our series: “Becoming the ‘Still Point’.”)

With grace, Debbera
