From Page to Path
You’ve done the work.
You’ve named your “spin.” (From our first post). You’ve created your own personal “Anchor Prayer.” (From our second post).
You’ve written it on a beautiful page in your journal. It feels lovely.
But then comes 5PM.
The kids are melting down. The dinner is burning. You feel that hot, familiar snap of impatience.
The Anchor on the Boat
An anchor is no good if it stays on the boat.
It is designed to be used in the storm.
“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”
jAMES 1:19
James 1:19 guides us:
“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”
James 1:19
But how?
We go from 0 to 100. We know we should be “slow to speak.” But we don’t know how.
The Sacred Pause
Your “Anchor Prayer” is the how.
It is the sacred, 3-second pause. It lives between the “trigger” and your “reaction.”
It is the tool God gives you to be “slow to speak.”
This is how you take your quiet time from the “page.” You carry it onto the “path” of your real, messy life.
yOUR pROMPTS
Prompts to Use Your “Anchor”
Use your journal to plan your reaction.
- Name the “Trigger”: “What is my most common ‘trigger’? What makes me ‘quick to snap’? (Is it when I am rushed? Is it when I hear whining? Is it when I’m in a crowded room?)”
- The “Anchor” Plan: “The next time I feel that trigger, what is my ‘Sacred Pause’ plan? (I will stop. I will not speak. I will put one hand on the counter.)”
- The “Anchor” in Action: “In that ‘pause,’ I will breathe in… and breathe out… my Anchor Prayer. (Inhale: ‘Prince of Peace.’ Exhale: ‘Calm my heart.’)”
- A Prayer of Grace: “Lord, I will fail at this. I will forget. When I do, help me to find grace (not guilt). Help me just… try again.”
yOUR ACTION POINT
Your Action Points: The “Task-Anchor”
You need to practice using your new tool. You need to build muscle memory.
Let’s start with something small.
- Choose one mundane task you do every day.
- The “Kettle” Anchor: When you boil the kettle.
- The “Car Door” Anchor: When you get in or out of your car.
- The “Tap” Anchor: Every time you wash your hands.
- Pair it. Your action is to pair your Anchor Prayer with that task.
- Repeat. Every time you wash your hands, take one deep breath. Say your prayer.
This builds the “muscle memory” in your soul.
So when the real storm hits?
Your Anchor is ready.
With grace, Debbera
