A Guide to Reigniting Hope
In the midst of an overwhelming season, our dreams can get very quiet.
It happens during a transition. It happens during a time of grief. It happens in the daily grind of a full life.
This is especially true now. We are coming to the end of the year. The fatigue is real.
Putting Hope on the Shelf
It’s not that we don’t want to have hope. It’s that we are just trying to get through the day.
The idea of “big dreams” feels exhausting. A “5-year plan” feels impossible. It even feels a little naive.
So we put our hopes on a high shelf. We keep them safe. Then we forget about them.
But hope is not a “nice-to-have,” my friend. It is spiritual fuel.
God gives it to us to keep us going.
“Dreaming” doesn’t have to be a loud goal. It doesn’t need to fit “hustle culture.” It can be a quiet, holy “what if.”
The Desires of the Heart
What if God has planted a small, quiet desire in your heart? What if it is meant just for you?
Psalm 37:4 says:
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
pSALM 37:4
This isn’t just about getting what you want. It is about Him aligning your heart with His. He plants His desires within you.
Your journal is the safest place in the world to explore these moments. It is where you whisper the things you are almost afraid to say out loud.

Prompts for Planting a Quiet Hope
Use these prompts to dust off the shelf.
- The “No-Fear” Whisper: “If I knew I could not fail… If no one would judge me… What is one small thing I would love to do? What would I love to be? What would I love to create?”
- Sparks of Joy: “What is one activity that makes me lose track of time? What gives me a quiet spark of ‘me-ness’?”
- Delighting in Him: “What is one simple way I can ‘delight’ in God this week? (for example, a quiet walk in nature. Listening to worship music. Reading a psalm).”
- A Prayer of Desire: “God, what is one quiet desire You have planted in my heart for this season? It doesn’t have to be big. Just show me a glimpse.”

Your Action Point: A “One-Sentence Dream”
You don’t need a giant, intimidating vision board. Your action is to simply plant one tiny seed.
- Turn to a new page in your journal.
- Write one single sentence. Start it with: “I am quietly hoping for…”
- “I am hoping for more quiet mornings.”
- “I am hoping to feel more creative.”
- “I am hoping for a new friendship.”
That’s it. You’ve given your hope a voice. You’ve planted the seed.
Now, just let it be held.
With grace, Debbera
