Your Brave Beginning

Your Brave Beginning

New things require us to begin. Beginning is one of the bravest things a human can do. Because beginning means admitting that where we are is not where we want to stay. It means stepping out of the familiar, even if the familiar was painful and stepping into the unknown.

This week, begin something even something tiny.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

jeremiah 29:11

Your Journaling Prompt

That One Small Start

What is one thing you have been wanting to begin but have been putting off?
Not because you are lazy.
Because you are afraid.

Name it in your journal. Then write around it using these prompts:

  • The reason I have not started is:
  • The fear underneath the reason is:
  • The smallest possible first step is:
  • The person who would encourage me if I told them is:

Now write a commitment. Not to finish. Not to succeed. Just to begin.

“This week, I will take one step toward

Just one. And that will be enough.”

Your Action

Heritage Day Reflection

South Africa celebrates Heritage Day on the 24th of September. In your journal, write about the faith heritage you want to build. Reflect not on what was passed to you but on what you are creating.

What spiritual traditions, practices, rhythms do you want to be known for?

What do you want the people around you to inherit from your life?

“The faith heritage I am building is.”

A Closing Prayer

Lord, grant us the courage to simply begin. When we are afraid to step into the unknown, remind us that Your plans for us are filled with hope and a future. Quiet our fears of not finishing or not succeeding and replace them with the bravery to take just one small step. As we reflect on the heritage we leave behind, help us to build lives rooted in love, faith and intentional rhythms that point others back to You. Amen.

Yours in faith Debbera
