We’ve talked about our journal being a safe, messy space. We’ve talked about using a simple “one-verse” anchor.
And now, I hear your truest question.
“But… I am a ‘Martha.’” “I am so busy.” “I truly don’t have time to sit down for 10 minutes.”
I hear you. I see you.
Our “daily walk” with God often happens in the spin of a chaotic day.
So, what if we “faith journal” IN the spin?
running conversation
The Running Conversation
“PRAY WITHOUT CEASING”
1 tHESS 5:17
The Bible invites us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thess 5:17).
This is not a command to be on our knees all day. It is an invitation.
It is an invitation to have a running conversation with God. Right in the middle of our real, messy lives.
Your “faith journal” doesn’t have to be a 30-minute event. It can be a 30-second moment.
It can be a “micro-journal” of the in-between.
your prompts
Prompts for the “In-Between”
Use your journal to catch the moments.
- The “Kettle” Prayer: “As I wait for the kettle to boil… I open my journal (or a note on my phone). I write my one-word prayer for the day. (Peace. Help. Grace. Thank-you.)”
- The “Red Light” Surrender: “Sitting at a red light. Feeling the ‘rush.’ I pull out a sticky note. I write down the one worry that’s spinning. I stick it in my journal to ‘hand to God’ later.”
- The “All Over the Place Mind” List: “Feeling overwhelmed by my ‘mental load.’ I open my journal. I just list the 3 ‘spins’ that are loudest. (Email. Dinner. Mom.) This is a ‘casting your cares’ journal.”
- The “End-of-Day” Manna: “Brushing my teeth. Too tired to write. I open my journal. I write one word of ‘manna’ (grace) from the day. (Sun. Laughter. Quiet.)”
your action point
Your Action Point: The “Task-Anchor” Journal
This week, choose one “in-between” moment that you know you will have.
- for example, The 5 minutes in your car in the school pickup line.
- for example, The 3 minutes you wait for your computer to boot up.
- Keep your journal with you.
- Open. In that one moment, your only action is to open your journal.
- Write one single sentence.
- “Lord, I am tired. Be my strength.”
- “Thank you for this 5-minute pause.”
- “This is my ‘spin’…”
This is not a “failed” quiet time.
This is a victorious conversation.
This is how you faith journal.
With grace, Debbera
