Does your faith ever feel… small?
You read stories of people with a loud, vibrant, “mountain-moving” faith. You see prayers that are bold. You see confidence that seems unshakable.
Then you look at your own.
Your heart feels quiet. Your prayers are sometimes just a one-word whisper. “Help.” “Please.” “Thank you.”
In a hard season, your faith might feel less like a roaring fire. It feels more like a tiny, flickering ember. You are cupping it with both hands. You are just trying to keep it from going out.
The Trap of “Big” Faith
The guilt creeps in.
“Am I doing this wrong?” “Why isn’t my faith stronger?” “Why isn’t it louder?”
I want to remind you of what Jesus said.
He didn’t say, “You must have a faith the size of a mountain.” He said, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed… nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20).
“If you have faith as small as a mustard seed… nothing will be impossible for you.”
Matthew 17:20
The Power of the Tiny
A mustard seed is tiny.
It is almost invisible. But it holds the entire blueprint for a great tree.
Jesus didn’t praise the size of the faith. He praised the presence of it.
God doesn’t need your big, perfect, impressive faith. He just needs your willingness.
He just needs your small, mustard-seed-sized “yes.”
He is the one who does the growing.
Your quiet, flickering, “I’m not sure, but I’m still here” faith is enough. It is more than enough. It is the very thing He treasures.

Prompts for Your “Mustard Seed” Faith
Use your journal to plant your small seed.
- Acknowledge the Feeling: “Where in my life today do I feel my faith is ‘too small’? Where do I feel ‘not enough’?”
- Find Your Seed: “What is my ‘mustard seed’ of faith right now? (e.g., I don’t have all the answers. But I believe God is good.)”
- The “Big” Promise: “My faith is small. But I am placing it in a big God. What is one ‘big’ promise about His character I can hold onto today?”
- A Seed of Prayer: “Lord, I bring you my small, mustard-seed faith. I place it in Your hands. Please do the growing.”

Your Action Point: The “Mustard Seed” Anchor
Sometimes we need a physical reminder that small things matter.
- Find a tiny piece of paper (like a corner torn from a sticky note).
- Open your journal. Write down the one thing you are praying for. Write the thing that feels “too big” for your “small” faith.
- Write just one word of faith on your tiny paper.
- “Trust.”
- “Held.”
- “Peace.”
- “Jesus.”
- Fold that tiny paper up. Tuck it into the page of your journal. Or tuck it into your wallet.
Let it be your physical reminder all week. Your small, mustard-seed “yes” is all He needs.
With love, Debbera
