How to Use a Prayer Journal for Women in Waiting
There is a unique kind of exhaustion that comes from waiting.
Right now, we are in a season of anticipation as we look forward to our upcoming trip to the Netherlands this April. The planning is completed and wonderful. The actual waiting, counting down the weeks and days is a daily practice in patience. This is just for a joy filled holiday seeing our children!
When we are waiting on God for something much heavier a breakthrough, a restored relationship, clarity on a new career path, or peace in a season of transition the waiting room of life can feel entirely unbearable.
When you are doing everything “right” but the circumstances still aren’t changing, it is so easy for doubt to creep in. We start to wonder if God has forgotten us, or if we somehow missed the turn-off. If you are tired of waiting today, I want to gently validate that feeling. It is okay to be weary.
But dealing with change from a Christian perspective means we don’t have to wait empty-handed. Let’s look at how we can actively wait with hope.
Why a Prayer Journal for Women is a Lifeline in the Waiting Room
When we are tired of waiting, our prayers often become repetitive loops of anxiety. We ask God to hurry up, to fix it, to change it. A prayer journal interrupts that anxious loop.
A prayer journal for women is not about writing perfect, eloquent prayers. It is a physical place to leave your heavy burdens so you don’t have to carry them around all day. It allows you to document your requests, but more importantly, it allows you to look back and see the subtle ways God was moving even when you thought He was silent.
Scripture to Anchor You While You Wait
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Isaiah 40:31
When overcoming doubt in faith, we have to replace our anxious thoughts with truth.
Here are three scriptures to write in your prayer journal this week as you wait on God’s perfect timing:
- Lamentations 3:25: “The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him.”
- Psalm 27:14: “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
- Isaiah 40:31: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
your action points
- Write a “Remember When” List: Devote one page of your journal to remembering the past. Write down three specific times in your life when God’s timing felt too late, but looking back, it was actually perfect.
- Shift Your Prayer Focus: This week, instead of just praying for the outcome, ask God to give you strength and character for the process.
- Find Joy in the Current View: Even in the waiting room, there is beauty. Whether it’s the autumn light hitting the mountain or a quiet moment with a friend, write down one good thing about today.
You are not forgotten in the waiting. God is at work behind the scenes, preparing the blessing for you and preparing you for the blessing.
