How I’m Moving from Passion to Purpose

How I’m Moving from Passion to Purpose

A Personal Roadmap

We often talk about “finding our purpose” as if it is a treasure chest hidden on a map, something we hunt for, find once and then keep forever.

But lately, I’ve realized that purpose isn’t a destination. It’s a practice. It is the daily decision to show up for the things that light you up, even when life feels heavy.

For me, the bridge between passion and purpose is journaling.

Every day, I return to the page, not because I always feel inspired and certainly not because I always have something profound to say. I return because it helps me reconnect with what matters. It anchors me.

What My Process Looks Like Right Now

If you are curious about how to turn a hobby into a life-giving practice, here is a peek inside my current routine. This is how I am moving from “just liking” something to living it with intention.

  • I Commit to the Messy Minutes: I write for at least a couple of minutes each day. Some days, the words flow like poetry. Other days, it’s just a list of worries, a grocery list, or a doodle of a leaf. But I write anyway. I’ve learned that the magic isn’t in the perfection; it’s in the consistency.
  • I Create Sacred Space: I don’t just squeeze it in; I make room for it. Sometimes it’s in the early morning light with my first cup of tea or coffee depending on my mood. Sometimes it’s a quiet moment before bed to exhale the day. The when doesn’t matter as much as the intention.
  • I Connect with Community: Purpose rarely grows in isolation. I share my journey with others who love the creative process, just like you reading this right now. Sharing my struggles and wins keeps me accountable and reminds me that we are all in this together.
  • I Curate My Environment: I surround myself with colour, with beauty and with people who remind me that creativity is a way of life. Whether it’s fresh fynbos on my desk or a beautiful pen that feels good in my hand, these small details signal to my brain that this work matters.

This is where my passion and purpose meet in the quiet, consistent act of showing up.

An Invitation for You

If you are reading this and feeling behind, please hear me:

You don’t have to wait until everything is clear or perfect to begin.

You don’t need a five-year business plan. You don’t need to know exactly where the path leads. You just need a little space, a little time and a whole lot of kindness toward yourself.

If You Feel Stuck, Work Backwards

If your purpose feels too big and scary right now, try working backwards from your passion. Instead of asking, “What is my destiny?” ask yourself these smaller, softer questions:

  1. The Hidden Joy: “What do I love doing, even when no one’s watching and there is no reward?”
  2. The Small Habit: “What small habit could I build today (even just 10 minutes) that brings me closer to that feeling of joy?”
  3. The Feeling: “How can I make this process feel joyful, not just productive?”

Let your journal be your guide through this. Let it hold your questions, your dreams and your doubts. Let it be the soil where your passion can slowly bloom into purpose.

Your Journaling Prompt for Today

If you are ready to take one small step, here is a gentle prompt to explore in your journal:

“What small, loving action can I take today that brings me closer to my purpose?”

Write freely. There’s no right or wrong answer. Just your voice, your truth and your journey unfolding one page at a time.

Happy journaling, Debbera

But I’ve learned that purpose isn't a destination, it's a daily practice. It's the decision to show up for yourself, even for just 30 minutes a day.On the blog, I’m sharing a behind-the-scenes look at My Personal Roadmap from Passion to Purpose. I share my daily routine, my messy moments, and how I create space for creativity. Plus, a gentle prompt to help you start your own rhythm. #Litsje #PassionToPurpose #DailyJournaling #CreativeRoutine #CapeTownCreatives #IntentionalLiving #SlowGrowth"
