Finding your still point
Do you ever try to “quietly reflect,” but your mind just won’t?
You sit down. Your journal is open. But your mind is loud.
It is spinning with tomorrow’s to-do list. It is replaying today’s hard conversation. It is worrying about a “what if” that is a month away.
You are trying to “be still.” But your thoughts are a whirlwind.
The Frustration of the Spin
It is so easy to get frustrated. It is easy to just give up.
“I can’t do this.” “I’m not good at being quiet.”
But consider this.
What if “quiet reflection” isn’t about forcing your mind to be empty? What if it is just about finding ONE still point?
You can find it right in the middle of the spin.
In the Middle of the Mess
“bE STILL AND KNOW THAT i AM gOD”
pSALM 46:10
Psalm 46:10 says:
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Psalm 46:10
Notice what it doesn’t say. It doesn’t say, “Be still, once you have solved everything.”
It is an invitation to be still right now.
You can be still in the middle of the mess. You can find the one thing that is true. You can find the one thing that is steady.

Journaling Prompts for a “Still Point”
Your journal is the sacred page where you acknowledge the “spin.” Then, you intentionally find your center.
- The “Spin” (The Mind Dump): “My mind is ‘loud’ right now. The thoughts spinning are… (List them. Get them out. The email. The dinner plan. The worry.)”
- The “Still Point” (The Anchor): “Now, I will take one deep breath. I will look away from the ‘spin.’ I will name one thing in this room that is ‘still’ and ‘quiet’ and ‘real.’ (The lamplight? My journal page? The quiet of the house?)”
- The “Know” (The Truth): “My feelings are a whirlwind. But I know this one, steady truth about God: (He is here. He is in control. He is holding me.)”
- A Prayer of Stillness: “Lord, I am still. I know that You are God. Be the ‘still point’ in my spinning heart tonight.”

Your Action Points: The “One-Minute” Anchor
This is a “micro-reflection” for when your mind is at its loudest.
- Pause. Stop trying to “journal” all your thoughts.
- Pivot. Turn to a brand-new, clean page in your journal.
- Anchor. Write one “still point” truth (from prompt #3) in the center of the page.
- Sit. Look at that one, true, still sentence for 60 seconds.
This is your “still point.”
You have reflected.
With love, Debbera
