how to become a possibilitarian

how to become a possibilitarian

Make Room for Possibility

What is possibility?

Often we are so filled with too many “things”, worries, to-do lists, clutter and doubts that these things take up all the space in our minds. We simply don’t have room left for magic to enter.

Keep in mind: to find a new path, you first need to be open to it. Sometimes, it isn’t a lack of opportunity that holds us back; it is simply the fear of taking up space.

How Can We Make Space for Possibility?

It starts with looking at what surrounds you. Make mental notes of what takes up your space, mentally, physically and even materially.

If something serves no purpose in your life, let it go. Make space for something new.

Decluttering is always a good start. Let go of the broken things. If you can’t re-purpose an item, give it away to someone who will appreciate it. Your “junk” could be someone else’s treasure. But more importantly, clearing your physical space often signals to your brain that you are ready to clear your mental space, too.

Overcoming the Fear of Starting

It is difficult to start something new. We often wait until we feel “ready” or “good enough.” But here is the secret: Acknowledge your fear and just start.

It is surprising to see that the thing you fear is often not that fearsome in the end.

My Personal Story: The Fear of Painting I used to have a fear of painting, especially when looking at everyone else who seemed so talented. I was paralyzed by the thought that I wasn’t “good enough.”

Then, I decided to stop being my own critic and just started painting. And you know what? I love it.

If I kept thinking “I’m not that good,” I would never have done something that brings me peace, happiness and fulfilment. In the end, I’m doing it for myself and my own enjoyment. I even love sharing my mistakes now, it shows I’m not perfect, I just love what I do now and that is painting for pleasure.

Shift Your Focus

We often complain so much about the things we don’t want, that we fail to make space for the things we do want.

All you need to do is change your focus a bit. You will be surprised to see what choices and possibilities appear when you stop looking at the closed doors and start looking for the open windows.

Do something that you’ve always put on the backburner. What is the one thing you are always making excuses about? For me, it was starting this blog. I always thought about it, until I decided to just do it. And now? It makes me happy.

I’m all for uplifting and empowering people. I want us to know ourselves so deeply that when we create, we create with fearlessness, expressing it outwards and bringing joy to others.

The Power of Connection

Possibility often lives in other people. Give yourself a nudge in the right direction:

  • Attend networking events: If there aren’t any, start your own! You’ll be surprised who you meet and the lasting friendships you make.
  • Create your own spaces: I created our “Creative Evenings” a space for friends to connect, make something special and share loads of fun and laughter.

It just takes you to get started. Be open to the possibility of connections; they are the anchors that hold us through everything.

Journaling Prompts to Become a “Possibilitarian”

Ready to open yourself up? Grab your journal and try these prompts:

  1. The Clutter Inventory: “What is one physical thing and one mental thought I am holding onto that no longer serves me? How can I let them go today?”
  2. The Backburner List: “What is the one project I have been putting off out of fear? If I knew I couldn’t fail, what would be my first step?”
  3. The Possibility Audit: “If I stopped complaining about what is going wrong, what is one thing that is actually going right?”

Let Go and Let Be

Here are just a few thoughts on opening yourself up to opportunities rather than closing yourself up because of fear.

Let go of the “things” filling your space. Let go of the need to be perfect. Let go and let be become a possibilitarian.

Take care, Debbera
