Taming the Chaos
Do you ever have those days?
The ones where your mind feels like a browser with 50 tabs open. They are all running at once. You can’t find the one playing the music.
Your thoughts are spinning. They jump from the grocery list to that email you need to send. They bounce from a worry about a loved one to that thing you forgot to do yesterday.
You feel scattered. You are pulled in every direction. You feel completely overwhelmed.
God is Not Afraid of Your Chaos
In these moments, it is so hard to find a quiet space.
Even when you try to sit and pray, your mind just won’t be still. It is easy to feel like a failure. We fear our scattered hearts are a disappointment to God.
But I want to remind you of a beautiful truth.
God is not afraid of your chaos.
He is the Prince of Peace. He can step into the most scattered, spinning mind. He brings a quiet stillness. He doesn’t demand that you get organized before you come to Him. He just invites you to come.
The Journal as a Container
Your journal is the most beautiful tool for this. It is a physical, practical way to
“cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you”
1 pETER 5:7
Think of your journal as a container. It is the place where you can take all those spinning, noisy thoughts. You can take them out of your head. You can carefully set them down.

Prompts for the Overwhelmed Heart
Stop trying to write perfect sentences. Use these prompts to offload the weight.
- The Great Pour-Out (The Brain Dump): This is not a to-do list. It is a “mind dump.” Set a timer for 5 minutes. Write down everything that is spinning in your head. Every task. Every worry. Every “should.” Don’t organize it. Just let it all spill onto the page until your mind feels a little quieter.
- Naming the Heaviest One: Look at your list. What is the one thought or worry that feels the heaviest? Write it down on a new line.
- The Quiet Release: Underneath that one heavy thought, write this simple prayer: “Lord, of all the things on my mind, this is the one that is loudest. I am handing it to You right now. Please hold it for me.”
- The Next Kind Step: “In this quiet, what is the one small, simple thing I can do next? (e.g., ‘make a cup of tea,’ ‘go for a 5-minute walk,’ ‘tackle the one easiest thing on my list.’)”

Your Action Point: A “Worry Triage”
You don’t have to solve everything at once. Use this simple triage method to sort through the noise.
- Look at your “mind dump” list from your journal.
- Circle the one thing that truly needs to be done today.
- Draw a line through one thing you can let go of for today.
- Hand over the rest to God.
This simple act of triage is a prayer in itself. It is you, with God, creating order from the chaos. You are giving yourself permission to not do it all.
With quiet grace, Debbera
