A Soft Place to Land
I know that feeling.
The one where your to-do list has its own to-do list.
The one where you’ve worn so many hats in a single day being a parent, partner, friend, employee, household manager you’re not even sure which one is you anymore.
Your mind is busy. And your soul? Your soul is just… tired.
In these moments, our first instinct is often to push harder. We try to organize, to strive, to do more, believing that if we can just get to the end of the list, we’ll find peace.
In our faith, we can even feel a little guilty for being this weary, as if we’re failing at “casting our burdens.”
But what if, instead of striving, we just… stopped?
What if the most holy, spiritual thing we could do is not to do more, but to be still?
The Invitation to Set It Down
Jesus said,
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28
It’s an invitation, not a command to work harder. It’s a quiet call to come and set your burdens down.
For me, my journal has become the sacred, physical space where I accept that invitation.
The page is my “place to land.” It’s where I can take all the noisy, heavy things I’m carrying and carefully set them down, one by one. It is the container that holds the weight so my shoulders don’t have to.
If your soul feels tired today, I invite you to this quiet practice.

Journaling Prompts for the Weary Soul
Find a quiet corner, even if it’s just for five minutes. Take a soft breath and meet yourself on the page with one of these kind prompts.
1. The Great Release (Brain Dump)
Don’t try to be profound. Just write down the one word that best describes how you feel right now. Then begin a brain dump. List every single task, worry, and “should” that is spinning in your mind. Let the page hold it all.
2. Naming the Burdens
“Lord, the burdens I am carrying today are…”
List them. Be honest. Is it “making dinner”? Is it “that difficult email”? Is it “worrying about my friend”? Name them so they lose their power.
3. Receiving Rest
“If I were to set these burdens down at Jesus’s feet, just for this hour, what would I feel? What would ‘rest’ look like for me, even for the next 10 minutes?”
4. A Quiet Truth
“The one quiet, tender truth I need to hear from God right now is…”

Your Action Point: A 5-Minute Surrender
You don’t need an hour for this. Tonight, before you sleep, set a timer for just five minutes.
- Open your journal.
- Choose one prompt from above.
- Write freely. Don’t edit, don’t judge. Just let the words flow.
- Close. When the timer goes off, close the journal. Take one deep breath and whisper, “I am held. It is enough for today.”
That’s it. You’ve created a safe place to land.
With warmth, Debbera
