Journaling to Find Your Worth in Him
Have you ever scrolled through your phone and, in the space of three minutes, felt your whole sense of self just… deflate?
Suddenly, your home isn’t clean enough. Your accomplishments feel small. Your life isn’t as adventurous, or your faith isn’t as vibrant as someone else’s.
The world is so loud with comparison.
If the world’s voice isn’t loud enough, our own inner critic often chimes in, reminding us of all the ways we’re falling short. It’s an exhausting, heartbreaking noise.
In these moments, we often try to fight back by building ourselves up striving for the next achievement or posting our own highlight reel. But this is just trying to shout over the noise with more noise.
The Antidote is Listening, Not Shouting
The true, lasting antidote to the voice of comparison is not to shout louder; it’s to listen to a different voice altogether.
It’s to find the quiet, steady, unchanging whisper of God that tells a completely different story about who you are.
David wrote in the Psalms:
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
pSALM 139:14
This isn’t a maybe. This isn’t a someday if I’m good enough.
It is a truth that was true before you did a single thing today and it will be true tomorrow, no matter what happens.
Your Journal as a Sanctuary
Your journal is the sanctuary where you can intentionally turn down the volume on the world and your critic and tune your heart to that one, true, loving voice.

Prompts for Hearing Your True Worth
If you are feeling the sting of comparison today, open your journal. Don’t write to perform; write to listen. Try one of these tender prompts:
- Naming the Noise: “What is the loudest ‘voice’ or ‘message’ I’ve been listening to this week? (for example ‘you’re behind,’ ‘you’re not doing enough,’ ‘you’re failing at…’).”
- The Quiet Truth: “Now, what is God’s quiet truth about me? If He were to write me a one-sentence note right now, what would He say?”
- A New Story: “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Write this phrase and then reflect: “What is one part of my character or story that I can see as ‘wonderfully made,’ even if the world overlooks it?”
- A Kinder Voice: “How can I speak to myself with the same soft compassion that Jesus would, just for the rest of today?”

Your Action Point: Create a “Truth List”
Sometimes we need a physical anchor to hold onto when the waves of insecurity hit.
- Turn to a brand new page in your journal.
- Title it: “What Is True.”
- Write down 3-5 simple, unchanging truths about who you are in God’s eyes.
- “I am loved.”
- “My worth is not in what I do.”
- “I am held.”
- “I am a child of God.”
The next time you feel the sting of comparison, do not engage with it.
Simply stop, take a breath, open your journal to this page and quietly read your list. Let it be your anchor.
With grace, Debbera
