Journaling in your Waiting period

Journaling in your Waiting period

Finding Faith in God’s Silence

We are people who love a clear plan.

We love to know the “what’s next.” We pray for direction. We ask for an open door. We beg for a sign.

And sometimes, what we get back is total silence.

When your doors stay closed and your answer just doesn’t come.

This season of “waiting” is one of the hardest parts of any faith journey. This silence of God can feel like His absence as if He does not see us. We feel forgotten, overlooked and even feel that God is punishing us and then we start to question everything in and around us.

I know this place of waiting quite well and I am also learning that this waiting period is not a punishment.

What I have realised is that this waiting period is a holy, intentional and active season in one’s life.

The Season of the Seed

When a seed is buried in the dark quiet earth, it doesn’t look like anything is happening. Yet, in this space, where you can’t see anything, it is gathering strength, growing it’s roots and preparing to bud forth and prepare for light.

You have to know that this is what God is doing in you and for you.

This waiting period is not an empty space. It is your sacred space.

It’s where He is teaching you a deeper kind of trust. A trust that is not dependent on seeing the next step. It depends on knowing the One who holds the path.

The Journal as a Tool for Hope

During this time, use your journal as your tool for hope. This is not the place to demand all your answers. This is your space to document your faithfulness during your waiting period. This is your place to hold onto Him, hold onto hope and a place to practice your faith in and during your waiting period.

yOUR pROMPTS

Prompts for the Season of Waiting

Use these prompts to tend to your roots while you wait for the bloom.

  • An Honest Heart: “God, in this season of waiting, the hardest feeling I’m wrestling with is…” (Be honest. Is it anger? Is it fear? Is it doubt?)
  • A Past Grace: “When have I been in a ‘wait’ before? How did God show His faithfulness to me THEN? (Remind yourself of His track record.)”
  • The Seed of Trust: “Even though I can’t see the future, what is one small thing I can do today to tend to my soul? How can I trust the process today?”
  • An Anchor Verse: “What is one promise or verse I can hold onto as my anchor in this wait? (for example, ‘Be still, and know…’ ‘He is faithful…’).”

yOUR ACTION pOINT

Your Action Point: Your Ebenezer Your Waiting List

In the Bible, Samuel raised a stone and called it “Ebenezer” (Stone of Help). It was to remember:

“Thus far the Lord has helped us.”
(1 Samuel 7:12).

We need to build our own stones of remembrance.

  1. Turn to a new page in your journal.
  2. Title it: “Thus Far…”
  3. List 3-5 specific times in your life when God has been faithful. List moments when an answer did come. List times when He got you through a hard valley.

The next time the silence feels too loud, turn to this page. Read your list.

Remind your heart of the truth.

The God who held you THEN is the same God who is holding you NOW.

With hope, Debbera
