Simple things you can do to change your life. We all want to make changes in our lives, but sometimes it can be difficult to know where to start. When it comes to creating change, consistency is key. If you want to see real results, you need to be willing to commit to making changes on a regular basis.
- Get outside every day, whether its only for a walk or sitting in the garden drinking tea.
- Become more in tune with nature, leave your windows open to hear the birds, plant your garden.
- Stretch every day.
- Drink your water.
- Don’t do any social media at least 30 minutes before you go to bed.
- Get a good nights sleep, at least 7 hours a day.
- Wake up the same time every day, your body will get into a rhythm even on the days you don’t work.
- Journal for 5 to 10 minutes every day.
- Create your own gratitude journal, and list 3 things every day that you are grateful for and why.
- Create your own goals, ask yourself constantly if what you are doing is getting you closer to your goals.
- Start a budget, become financially responsible, you will reap the rewards believe me.
- Have an emergency fund. If you don’t have one, start to put small amounts of money into it every month. Pretend it isn’t there, you will reap the benefits when you least expect it.
- Create music playlists for every mood, when you need nature sounds, calming jazz, funky walking music – listen according to your moods
- Be the bearer of gifts, say thank you, it good be a book you read or bake a cake for someone. It’s the little things that count.
- Sit down and have your evening meals at a table with no distractions. It’s something we have done for years as a family. It’s the best time to deflate, re-energise.
- Have more real life conversations. Engage with your family, friends and co-workers.
- Turn off your notifications on your phone while you are working on a project, this could be work or a hobby project. Pour your entire focus into your task at hand.
- Watch more sunrises and sunsets.
- Give up a bad habit, start with one. Make a conscious effort to stop.
- Try living in the moment (try grounding – 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, 1 thing you can taste).
- Make a habit of doing things for yourself. Create your own self care routine and / or self care box where you can go to when you feel stressed or anxious.
- Cut toxic people from your life – the people who are in your orbit heavily influence what you do and how you feel.
- Choose experiences over things.
- Overall, let the small things go – take a deep breath, think before you act. Ask yourself will this matter in five years. Specifically with kids at home, where in the scale does this really matter, its always experiences over things.
I hope these ideas help you get started on your journey to change. Remember, consistency is key. If you are willing to put in the work, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
I also want to add that it is important to be kind to yourself along the way. Change can be challenging, so don’t beat yourself up if you slip up sometimes. Just pick yourself up and keep going. You’ve got this!
